IRIS PRIZE: COMEDY SHORTS

  • NEW CENTURY HALL 34 Hanover Street Manchester, England, M4 4AH United Kingdom (map)

You can find humour in the most unexpected places, and this collection of Iris Prize LGBTQ+ short films does just that hosted by Berwyn Rowlands from Iris Prize.

One of the undisputed highlights is a Welsh language, Trans comedy called TETH, that’s not something you don’t see every day!

There’s even more comedy from Wales with Arth, before we travel to Norway to meet a Baldman, and things get complicated in Italy for a gay couple coming out to restaurant owning father, what could possibly go wrong.

And how far would you go to delete some erotic text messages, find out in Break In.

1. Arth (12A) | Dir. Amy Daniel. Wales, UK. 2018. 11 mins.

Arthur (could be described as an Arth, Bear in English) is a carpenter who leads a quiet,

uneventful life in rural mid-Wales. That is until one day when he discovers a new device

that will change his life forever.

2. Bald Guy (Skallamann) (12A) | Dir: Maria Bock. Norway. 2011. 12 mins.

A story about a young man’s quest for love and acceptance, all in a lively musical film

about being yourself and loving whoever you want. This is a film about forbidden and

boundless love and the risk of losing everything when your choice conflicts with the

morally accepted.

3. Teth (15) | Dir. Peter Darney. Wales, UK. 2024. 12 mins.

Following surgery, Ioan and his father adapt to their new relationship as father and son,

that is until the dog mistakes a nipple for a chew toy. A new Trans, Welsh language

comedy!

4. Break In (15) | Dir. Alyssa Lerner. USA. 2020. 16 mins.

What’s worse than writing erotic fiction about your crush? Accidentally texting it to her.

When this very thing happens to Nousha, she enlists the help of her best friend, Oliver,

and they set out on a mission to delete the text. By any means necessary.

5. When In Rome (Paese Che Vai) (PG) | Dir: Luca Padrini. Italy. 2020. 10 mins.

A young and handsome Alfredo returns home after a long time along with his partner

Mattia. He must break the news to his old-fashioned father about his secret.
